Christ in the Psalms
by Patrick Henry ReardonThe Psalms run like a golden thread through the beautiful garment of Orthodox worship. They form the core of Vespers, Matins and the other services of the Daily Office. They are found in the Divine Liturgy, Marriage and the other Sacramental services of the Church. They provided the inspiration for many of the prayers and hymns of Orthodox worship. The Psalms are so important that ancient tradition has decreed that the entire Book of Psalms must be read every week during Daily Offices. In addition to inspiring the public prayer of the Church, the Psalms are an indispensable part of the private devotions of all who seek a closer relationship with God. The Psalms are important because they express in divinely inspired language the innermost thoughts and even fears of humanity. The Psalms express the wonder felt by those who gaze at the glory of God's creation. They give words to the intense sorrow for sin. They profoundly express the horror of loneliness and alienation. No matter how deeply invaded by sentiments of despair, one finds these feelings echoed in the Psalms themselves, and, more important, finds them answered by the glorious message of the love of God.
Christ in the Rubble: Faith, the Bible, and the Genocide in Gaza
by Munther IsaacA cry from the heart and a call to action from a Palestinian Christian pastor and theologian In this impassioned and incisive book, Munther Isaac challenges mainstream Christians&’ uncritical embrace of the modern State of Israel. Speaking from his unique vantage point as a prominent Palestinian Christian pastor and theologian, he proclaims a truth that is rarely acknowledged in Christian circles: Israel&’s campaign to eliminate the Palestinian people did not begin after October 7, 2023. Rather, the campaign is a continuation of a colonial project with nineteenth-century roots that has, since 1948, established systems of entrenched discrimination and segregation worse than South Africa&’s apartheid regime. Writing from Bethlehem with close-up knowledge of conditions on the ground, and rooted in a commitment to nonviolence and just peace, Isaac urges readers to recognize that support for Zionism&’s genocidal project entails a failure to bring a properly Christian theological criticism to bear upon colonialism, racism, and empire. He calls on Christians to repent of their complicity in the destruction of the Palestinian people. And he challenges them to realign their beliefs and actions with Christ—who can be found not among perpetrators of violence, but with victims buried under the rubble of war.

Christ in the Tabernacle: An Old Testament Portrayal of the Christ of the New Testament
by A.B. SimpsonThe classic book, Christ in the Tabernacle by A.B. Simpson, is subtitled "The Old Testament portrayal of the Christ of the New Testament." A.B. Simpson again brings the truths of the Old Testament wilderness tabernacle and its makeup, linens, structure and furnishings contained within to the forefront of a simplistic theological discussion on how Christ is portrayed by those items. It is a true, simple and honest approach at showing how the Old Testament priests and people of God (the Israelites) could look forward to the coming Messiah and see him through the ordinary things they dealt with in their daily worship. In eight chapters A.B. Simpson brings to life the wilderness tabernacle in vivid detail and shows how the indestructible wood, the gold, the finest linens, the carvings were all superimposing on all of it the likeness of Christ. A. B. Simpson lifts up Jesus Christ in this book and tries to get the lay person to understand the importance that all Scripture points to Christ both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. To A.B. Simpson, it was vital that Christ was visible as the coming Messiah in the Old Testament and the Messiah that died and was resurrected in the New Testament.

Christ the Answer
by Father SullivanFather Peter Sullivan in Christ the Answer presents a Catholic apologetic for why Jesus Christ is the answer for people in the modern world. He begins his discussion by explaining the philosophical, scientific, rational and ontological reasons for the existence of God. After this, he explains why Christ is God by exploring the truth of the gospels and the veracity of the gospel writers. In his exegesis, he discusses the unique qualities of Christ, His own revelation of His divinity and the nature of His death and resurrection. These points further point to Christ's divinity. Sullivan's ends his discussion by presenting reasons why belief in Christ and following His teachings will help to solve humankind's existential crisis and moral decay. In support of this premise, he discusses the modern day occurrences in Fatima and Lourdes. This book examines the reasons for unbelief and provides rational explanations. His extensive footnotes and references substantiate his points and provide readers with ways to get additional information. Even though this work is scholastic, it is written in a straightforward manner so that non-academic readers are able to understand the material. In addition, he gives study outlines and summaries for each chapter to help readers better navigate the content. For more sophisticated readers, the work ends with two appendixes on science and God. Even though this book is written by a Catholic, much of its content is of interest and of value to non-Catholic readers as well.

by Francesca Aran MurphyThis book reveals the importance of the sacramental imagination as the key to the renewal of Christology and of modern Christian literature.
Christ the Heart of Creation
by Rowan WilliamsIn this wide-ranging book, the author argues that what we say about Jesus Christ is key to understanding what Christian belief says about creator and creation overall.

Through detailed discussion of texts from the earliest centuries to the present day, we are shown some of the various and subtle ways in which Christians have discovered in their reflections on Christ the possibility of a deeply affirmative approach to creation, and a set of radical insights in ethics and politics as well.

Throughout his life, the author has been deeply influenced by thinkers of the Eastern Christian tradition as well as Catholic and Anglican writers. This book draws on insights from Eastern Christianity, from the Western Middle Ages and from Reformed thinkers, from Calvin to Bonhoeffer - as well as considering theological insights sparked by philosophers like Kierkegaard and Wittgenstein.

Christ the Heart of Creation concerns fundamental issues for Christian belief and the author tackles them head-on: he writes with pellucid clarity and shows his gift for putting across what are inevitably complex ideas to a wide audience.
Christ the Key
by Kathryn TannerThrough the intensely intimate relationship that arises between God and humans in the incarnation of the Word in Christ, God gives us the gift of God's own life. This simple claim provides the basis for Kathryn Tanner's powerful study of the centrality of Jesus Christ for all Christian thought and life: if the divine and the human are united in Christ, then Jesus can be seen as key to the pattern that organizes the whole, even while God's ways remain beyond our grasp. Drawing on the history of Christian thought to develop an innovative Christ-centered theology, this book sheds fresh light on major theological issues such as the imago dei, the relationship between nature and grace, the Trinity's implications for human community, and the Spirit's manner of working in human lives. Originally delivered as Warfield Lectures at Princeton Theological Seminary, it offers a creative and compelling contribution to contemporary theology.
