A Man's Heart
by Lori CopelandJules broke off her wedding to Cruz practically at the altar. Not just once, but twice. Now the man Jules loves best can't stand the sight of her. Only for Pop could Jules have made such a sacrifice. And now Pop is gone, leaving Jules with his struggling Washington State potato farm; with a sister excluded from his will; and with a heart wounded by the sacrifice she has made on behalf of her father. It looks like strengthening her relationship with her sister and improving the prospects of the Blue Bayou farm will be Jules' chief concerns. But when cancer takes the life of her best friend, Jules finds herself caring for her friend's two small children as well as the Blue Bayou. A drought-stricken farm. A promise to a dead friend and two needy little lives. And disturbing memories stirring up a growing relationship with her sister. How can one woman handle it all? The answer lies with a God who holds the keys to yesterday, today, and tomorrow—and to the heart of the one man whom Jules could ever love.

A Man’s Reach: The Autobiography of Glenn Clark
by Glenn ClarkClark was a man who, without being himself a recognized "New Thought" leader, has been highly influential in introducing "New Thought" ideas and techniques into the churches. Clark was deeply religious and something of a mystic, a great believer in prayer. He first came into prominence through an article in the "Atlantic Monthly" titled "The Soul's Sincere Desire." He began to be much in demand as a speaker in the churches and in summer camps. In 1930 he organized a summer camp of his own in Koronis, Minnesota to which he gave the name "Camp Farthest Out." Here for a period, amidst pleasant surroundings, a group of congenial and serious-minded people met for a season of fellowship, relaxation, and spiritual renewal, under the direction of Dr. Clark and others of somewhat similar views. In 1942 he resigned from his position at the College to give all his time to helping others discover this integration of body, mind and spirit in God. Through a series of experiences told in his autobiography, "A Man's Reach," he had been brought to an unusual interest in prayer, and it became his major concern and emphasis. It set him to reading especially the works of the mystics and about them and their approach to God. Among the books he read was "Life Understood" by Frank Rawson, a onetime Christian Scientist who had been expelled from the church, and went on to become an influential leader of "New Thought" in England. The thing that attracted Clark to Rawson, he says, was that "he believed one's prayers could be just as scientifically infallible as the laws of physics and chemistry.".-Print ed.

Man's Search for Meaning: The Classic Tribute To Hope From The Holocaust
by Viktor E. Frankl Harold S. Kushner William J. WinsladePsychiatrist Viktor Frankl's memoir has riveted generations of readers with its descriptions of life in Nazi death camps and its lessons for spiritual survival. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of others he treated later in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose. Frankl's theory-known as logotherapy, from the Greek word logos ("meaning")-holds that our primary drive in life is not pleasure, as Freud maintained, but the discovery and pursuit of what we personally find meaningful. At the time of Frankl's death in 1997, Man's Search for Meaning had sold more than 10 million copies in twenty-four languages. A 1991 reader survey for the Library of Congress that asked readers to name a "book that made a difference in your life" found Man's Search for Meaning among the ten most influential books in America. Beacon Press, the original English-language publisher of Man's Search for Meaning, is issuing this new paperback edition with a new Foreword, biographical Afterword, jacket, price, and classroom materials to reach new generations of readers.

Practical guidance for Christians on being truth and light in a world that increasingly views biblical truth as intolerance and hate. Many people today are afraid and angry. The ground under them is shifting, and they feel powerless to do anything about it. Some look at the massive cultural changes, and they shrug. That's no big deal. In fact, we need to keep in step with the culture. Go along to get along. Others have an opposite reaction: they fight back in an impassioned, shrill voice that alienates those who disagree with them. Still others withdraw from the contentious arguments because they assume, What's the use? My voice means nothing. But there's another path--to engage the people and the problems in our culture with a blend of humility and strength. The paradox of faith is that the deeper we go into the deep waters of the tenderness, love, and grace of God--the fact that the king of glory loved us enough to become a servant to pay for our sins and make us his own--he increasingly puts steel in our souls so we can engage the difficult issues in our culture with wisdom, kindness, and courage. Like the culture, we tend to drift--toward disillusionment or self-sufficiency. We need God's grace and truth to penetrate deep into our hearts, and we need each other, to stay the course. In our culture, "people truth " are often seen as judgmental and intolerant (and these labels may indeed fit), but Pastor Choco is known for his compassion as well as his unswerving commitment to truth. Stories from his life and his church will be woven throughout this book. Each chapter includes questions to stimulate personal reflection and group discussion.A group leader's guide is included in the appendix

The Mantram Handbook: A Practical Guide to Choosing Your Mantram and Calming Your Mind
by Eknath EaswaranThe mantram, or mantra, is a short, powerful, spiritual formula from the world's great traditions, repeated silently in the mind, anytime, anywhere. Examples of mantrams are Rama, Rama, used by Gandhi, or My God and My All, repeated by St. Francis of Assisi, or Om Mane Padme Hum.

Easwaran taught the use of the mantram for over forty years as part of his passage meditation program. He explains how the mantram works, and gives practical guidelines for using it to focus our thoughts and access deeper resources of strength, patience, and love. The mantram can help us replenish our energy, release creativity, and heal old conflicts. These resonant phrases work equally well for parents with young children, colleagues at work, couples in a relationship, in illness or depression, and even at the time of death. And Easwaran shows how repetition of the mantram can open the door to a life that is increasingly meaningful and fulfilling.
