Turning the Tide: Real Hope, Real Change
by Charles F. StanleyNew York Times bestselling author Charles Stanley shares a thought-provoking, inspirational book on how prayer and civic involvement can turn the tide of events presently befalling our nation. Stanley intelligently walks readers through the state of our nation, then aptly offers the most practical action step of all--prayer. With spiritual wisdom and astute knowledge, he shares . . . 1. The Story of Our Storm--Including information on "The Anatomy of Our Failure," "The Downward Spiral of Socialism in America," and "The Eroding Banks of Personal Freedom." 2. Stand Up and Speak Out--Instructing readers on how to "Boldly Hold Our Leaders Accountable" and "Refuse to Tolerate the Flood of Immorality." 3. Turning the Tide--Offering inspirational ways for ordinary citizens to make a difference through "The Power of Speaking the Truth Boldly" and "The Power of Wisdom." 4. The Pathway to Real Change--Outlining a comprehensive, twenty-week prayer guide to help readers take the next step in praying for our country, asking God to hear our pleas and help our nation. *** There is a tidal wave threatening our nation, and its unrelenting surge is changing American life as we've known it . . . and as our Founding Fathers intended it to be. In the midst of the politically charged atmosphere in our country, Dr. Charles Stanley stands tall with a refreshingly calm yet bold call to action. For those who are tired of the rhetoric and are eager to see real change, Pastor Charles Stanley offers a conservative perspective on the state of our nation and what we can do to redirect it. Devoid of the hysteria that normally accompanies national commentary, Dr. Stanley instead offers a balanced, inspirational message for our troubled times. Insisting we can make a difference, Dr. Stanley makes a passionate plea for Christians to get on their knees to pray, and then stand up and become involved. With wisdom and biblical teaching, he insists that if we will turn to God and obey Him, we can: * Reverse the course of our financial troubles * Stop the onslaught of increasingly burdensome taxation * Halt the advancement of socialism in public policy * Return respect for the sanctity of life to the national discourse In this revolutionary book, bestselling author Dr. Charles Stanley also offers a step-by-step twenty-week prayer guide to help Christians pray for real change. It's time, Dr. Stanley says, for us to take responsibility for the direction of our country and become involved both at the civic level and through fervent prayer.

Turning to the World: Social Justice and the Common Good since Vatican II
by Carl N. Still Gertrude RompréThe Second Vatican Council (1962–1965) was a watershed event in the history of the Catholic Church, a critical self-examination that sought at once to rediscover the most ancient sources of Christian thought and practice and to bring these traditions into the modern world. While few question the idealism and vision of Vatican II, its legacy is contested. Has the Catholic Church fulfilled the promise of the council? Has it successfully reclaimed the scriptural call to justice? Has it truly shifted its gaze to the "joys and hopes, grief and anguish" of our troubled world?

Reflecting on both the vision of the council and its uneven reception, Turning to the World ponders the impact of Vatican II on interreligious dialogue, peace-building, and care for the environment. Focusing specifically on the Canadian and Latin American experiences, contributors work from diverse disciplinary perspectives to examine developments in the Catholic Church's understanding of freedom, conscience, and the common good. The volume also appraises the effects of the Church's turn to the world in its hope to voice the pressing needs of the human family, especially in contexts of great poverty and injustice and among peoples adversely affected by the modern and postmodern economies of greed.

Exploring the legacy of Vatican II, Turning to the World offers a unique perspective on the influence, reception, developments, and applications of the council from the 1960s to the teachings of Pope Francis.

Tuvalu, Theology, and the Geopolitics of Climate Change: Am I Not Your Tuakoi (Neighbour)? (Routledge New Critical Thinking in Religion, Theology and Biblical Studies)
by Maina Vakafua TaliaThis book examines the threat posed by climate change to the low-lying islands of Tuvalu through a lens of what it means to be a neighbour. Those who live on Tuvalu are among the most vulnerable in the world to threats of rising sea levels and global climate change. Their carbon emissions are miniscule and they are ‘weak actors’ in terms of the geopolitics of climate change. The task in Tuvalu is to take seriously the prospect of the submergence of islands and the potential for cultural extinction. This prospect raises a network of interconnected questions to do with the rights of climate displaced persons and sovereignty over lands lost to climate change. In this volume, the author draws upon Indigenous knowledge, the ethics of climate justice, insights from climate science and familiarity with discourses surrounding the Anthropocene to explore the implications of the parable of the Good Samaritan. The rhetoric of the question ‘am I not your tuakoi (neighbour)?’ inserts a theological and moral dimension into the complex politics of climate change. The book will be of particular interest to scholars of theology, ethics, ecology and environment, as well as those working in Pacific studies, development studies, and politics.

Tweetable Nietzsche: His Essential Ideas Revealed and Explained
by C. Ivan SpencerFriedrich Nietzsche radically confronted Western culture, morality, and social mores, until his death in 1900. Occupying a first-rank position as a thinker, his thought later inspired numerous movements that weave the tapestries of contemporary culture: existentialism, theology, nihilistic culture, Nazism, twentieth century film and art, atheism, ethical egoism, deconstruction, the hermeneutics of suspicion, and the postmodern age. Nietzsche’s incalculable sway on our culture persists to this day. Even his acerbic criticism of Christianity has affected the religion. But many people remain unaware of the pervasive attitudes Nietzsche disseminated, attitudes they echo. His stark prophecy that “God is dead, and we killed him” thrives in this accelerating secular age where postmodernists lionized him as a prophetic voice of a new era. Tweetable Nietzsche introduces and analyzes the worldview of Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche’s tweets, 140 characters or less, provide readers a distilled essence of every major aspect of his worldview. Each tweet illustrates some aspect of his worldview contributing toward a full-orbed understanding of Nietzsche’s thought.
