60-GHz CMOS Phase-Locked Loops
by Reza Mahmoudi Arthur H.M. Roermund Hammad M. CheemaThe promising high data rate wireless applications at millimeter wave frequencies in general and 60 GHz in particular have gained much attention in recent years. However, challenges related to circuit, layout and measurements during mm-wave CMOS IC design have to be overcome before they can become viable for mass market. 60-GHz CMOS Phase-Locked Loops focusing on phase-locked loops for 60 GHz wireless transceivers elaborates these challenges and proposes solutions for them. The system level design to circuit level implementation of the complete PLL, along with separate implementations of individual components such as voltage controlled oscillators, injection locked frequency dividers and their combinations, are included. Furthermore, to satisfy a number of transceiver topologies simultaneously, flexibility is introduced in the PLL architecture by using new dual-mode ILFDs and switchable VCOs, while reusing the low frequency components at the same time.
60 Years of Survival Outcomes at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
by M. Alma Rodriguez Thomas W. Burke Ronald S. WaltersThis unique book provides a retrospective analysis of the changes in survival outcomes at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center over the past six decades. Since opening its doors in 1944, M.D. Anderson has kept a continuous, uninterrupted data repository of the treatment and outcomes of each of its patients. It is this visionary database from the center's tumor registry which makes this groundbreaking book possible. Tracking results across time, this book shows radical shifts in outcomes trends, where great progress has been made, and where there is still a long way to go, and offers a snapshot into the parallel history of developments in care. Such data is crucial to informing how patients are counseled, how treatment decisions are determined, and how prognoses are made. 60 Years of Survival Outcomes at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is the only book to concurrently present longitudinal data on survival outcomes across the spectrum of rare and common cancers. Each chapter deals with a specific disease site, discussing current management approaches and presenting key data replete with illustrative charts, graphs, and tables. With the resources available only to the practitioners at this inimitable institution, this book heralds a cornerstone moment in the study of survival outcomes and the depth of our knowledge of cancer care.

6G: The Road To Future Wireless Technologies 2030 (River Publishers Series In Communications Ser.)
by Paulo Sergio Henrique Ramjee PrasadSince the launch of Second-Generation Networks (2G), planning for each future mobile service was initiated many years before its commercial launch. In 2019, 5G Networks begun to be deployed commercially after almost ten years of planning. Similarly, the race for the 6G wireless networks that will be operational in 2030 has already started. To fulfill its potential in the upcoming decade, 6G will undoubtedly require an architectural orchestration based on the amalgamation of existing solutions and innovative technologies. The book will begin by evaluating the state of the art of all current mobile generations' while looking into their core building blocks. 6G implementation will require fundamental support from Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning on the network's edge and core, including a new Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum. The 6G use cases will require advanced techniques for enabling the future wireless network to be human-centric, ensuring enhanced quality of experience (QoE) for most of its applications. The concept of Human Bond Communication Beyond 2050 (Knowledge Home) and Communication, Navigation, Sensing, and Services (CONASENSE) will also profit from future wireless communication. Terahertz domains will exploit the ultra-Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output Antennas (UM-MIMO) technologies to support Terabits' data throughputs. Moreover, optical wireless communications (OWC) will also come into play to support indoor and outdoor high-data rates. Further expansion of 6G core entities will support the novel concept of Society 5.0. Quantum computing processing and communications is also likely to be added into the 6G ecosystem with security managed by blockchain orchestration for a robust network.

The 7 Sexes: Biology of Sex Determination
by Elof Axel CarlsonWhat makes us male or female? A geneticist explains the history of scientific research into human sexuality and reproduction. In this book, geneticist and science historian Elof Carlson tells the incredible story of the difficult quest to understand how the body forms girls and boys. Carlson’s history takes us from antiquity to the present day to detail how each component of human reproduction and sexuality was identified and studied, how this knowledge enlarged our understanding of sex determination, and how it was employed to interpret such little understood aspects of human biology as the origin of intersex births.“Reveals the various scientific advances, in both methods and understanding, that allowed researchers to identify anatomical structures, gametes, sex hormones, sex chromosomes, and ultimately, a firm comprehension of the genetics of sex. . . . This scientific story of discovery is quite fascinating.” —Barbara Baumgartner, Washington University, St. Louis
747: Creating the World's First Jumbo Jet and Other Adventures from a Life in Aviation
by Jay Spenser Joe SutterThis is the thrilling story behind "the Queen of the Skies"--the Boeing 747--as told by Joe Sutter, one of the most celebrated engineers of the twentieth century, who spearheaded its design and construction. Born in 1921 in Seattle, Sutter grew up on a hilltop overlooking the Boeing plant and flying field. It was a thrilling era of open cockpits, silk scarves, leather helmets, and goggles. After serving in World War 2, Sutter joined Boeing, then a small company, eager to build airplanes. In July 1965, he was asked to lead the large Boeing team designing the new 747. Pan Am wanted a new airliner as quickly as possible. This all-new transport had to be far bigger than anything in service or even on anybody's drawing board. To make it fly, Sutter and his team would have to push far beyond the technological boundaries of the late 1960s. Could it be done? Almost everything about the 747 would be unprecedented. Its cabin would be so wide that it would need two aisles. Its horizontal tail would be bigger than the wings of most airliners ever built. Jet engines big enough to lift it off the ground didn't yet exist. Runways at the world's airports couldn't handle it, and neither could Boeing's factories. They had to erect the world's largest building just to produce it. A truly mammoth undertaking, the 747 became one of the most successful airplane models ever. Sutter's vivid narrative takes us back to a time when American technology was cutting-edge--the 747, came on the market the same year that men first set foot on the moon--and jet travel was still glamorous and new. With wit and warmth, he gives an insider's sense of the larger-than-life-size personalities and the tensions in the aeronautical world. Ultimately, 747 is an inspiring story of grit and glory.
