The Last Battle (The Dragonmaster Trilogy #3)
by Chris BunchDragonmaster Hal Kailas, Lord Kailas of Kalabas, Member King's Household, Defender of the Throne, Hero of Deraine, and so on and so forth, banked his great dragon Storm out over the Eastern Sea, and looked back at the land. Spring was about to arrive. Here, fishing boats ran out their nets. There, just inland, along the cliffs, farmers were beginning to plow. The trees of the orchards were budding, putting forth green shoots. Villages and farms dotted the landscape, the chimneys of their houses curling smoke up into the sharp air. All was prosperous, all was peaceful, all belonged to the Dragonmaster.

As Hal had feared, with the end of the war not only dragon-fliers, but the dragons themselves have been cast aside. Worse, as before the conflict, the beasts are being savaged by a mysterious foe within their native lands. Enlisting trusted comrades, Hal embarks on a new crusade to protect the dragons, and in doing so uncovers a terrible threat, not just to the creatures but to man himself.

The Last Book of Jorkens (Jorkens)
by Lord DunsanyThe Last Book of Jorkens, the sixth and last collection of Dunsany's Jorkens tales to be published, is a collection of fantasy short stories around the character Joseph Jorkens. It was left unpublished on Dunsany's death, and was finally issued in a limited first special edition in 2002. The book collects twenty-two short pieces by Dunsany. The Jorkens stories are set in the London gentleman's or adventurer's club of which the title character is a member. They usually open with another member mentioning an interesting experience he has had; this rouses Jorkens, who in return for a whisky-and-soda (merely to "moisten his throat," you understand!) goes the other member one better with an extraordinary tall tale, supposedly from his own past. His stories often tip well over the boundaries of the plausible, into the realms of fantasy, horror, or even science fiction, and his auditors can never be quite sure what proportion of what he relates was truly experienced and to what degree he might have embellished.
The Last Book of Wonder
by Lord DunsanyI do not know where I may be when this preface is read. As I write it in August 1916, I am at Ebrington Barracks, Londonderry, recovering from a slight wound. But it does not greatly matter where I am; my dreams are here before you amongst the following pages; and writing in a day when life is cheap, dreams seem to me all the dearer, the only things that survive. Just now the civilization of Europe seems almost to have ceased, and nothing seems to grow in her torn fields but death, yet this is only for a while and dreams will come back again and bloom as of old, all the more radiantly for this terrible ploughing, as the flowers will bloom again where the trenches are and the primroses shelter in shell-holes for many seasons, when weeping Liberty has come home to Flanders. To some of you in America this may seem an unnecessary and wasteful quarrel, as other people's quarrels often are; but it comes to this that though we are all killed there will be songs again, but if we were to submit and so survive there could be neither songs nor dreams, nor any joyous free things any more. And do not regret the lives that are wasted amongst us, or the work that the dead would have done, for war is no accident that man's care could have averted, but is as natural, though not as regular, as the tides; as well regret the things that the tide has washed away, which destroys and cleanses and crumbles, and spares the minutest shells. And now I will write nothing further about our war, but offer you these books of dreams from Europe as one throws things of value, if only to oneself, at the last moment out of a burning house.
