The Ledge

by Jim Davidson Kevin Vaughan

"My eyes travel up the frozen walls. I figure it is eighty feet up to the sunlight. The walls above me climb up at about eighty degrees, then they go dead vertical, and then, higher up, they overhang. It is as if I am looking out from the belly of a beast, its jagged white teeth interlocking above me." In June 1992, best friends Jim Davidson and Mike Price stood triumphantly atop Washington's Mount Rainier, celebrating what they hoped would be the first of many milestones in their lives as passionate young mountaineers. Instead, their conquest gave way to catastrophe when a cave-in plunged them deep inside a glacial crevasse--the pitch-black, ice-walled hell that every climber's nightmares are made of.An avid adventurer from an early age, Davidson was already a seasoned climber at the time of the Rainier ascent, fully aware of the risks and hopelessly in love with the challenge. But in the blur of a harrowing free fall, he suddenly found himself challenged by nature's grandeur at its most unforgiving. Trapped on a narrow, unstable frozen ledge, deep below daylight and high above a yawning chasm, he would desperately battle crumbling ice and snow that threatened to bury him alive, while struggling in vain to save his fatally injured companion. And finally, with little equipment, no partner, and rapidly dwindling hope, he would have to make a fateful choice--between the certainty of a slow, lonely death or the seeming impossibility of climbing for his life.At once a heart-stopping adventure story, a heartfelt memoir of friendship, and a stirring meditation on fleeting mortality and immutable nature, The Ledge chronicles one man's transforming odyssey from the dizzying heights of elation and awe to the punishing depths of grief and hard-won wisdom. This book's visceral, lyrical prose sings the praises of the physical world's wonders, while searching the souls of those willing, for better or worse, to fully embrace it.From the Hardcover edition.

by Àlex Martín

by Damien Massias

Attenzione, nuova notifica!

Legacy Mindset: Take Charge of Today and Build Extreme Resilience

by Korey Shaffer

We're all broken in some way-but "broken" is not forever. In fact, it's just part of the story of how we build our legacies. Entrepreneur and US Marine Korey Shaffer's road through life was tougher than most. After returning from a harrowing tour of duty in Afghanistan, and still aching from his troubled childhood and adolescence, Shaffer felt his chance to leave something of value to the world might have passed. But even in despair, he knew that many did not return home at all, or returned more broken than he was. Determined that the wounded and fallen not be abandoned or forgotten, Shaffer founded the Til Valhalla Project, an organization devoted to honoring the fallen and preventing veteran suicides. Til Valhalla unexpectedly proved to be Shaffer's salvation as well. Sharing intimate details from his square-peg childhood, reckless adolescence, brotherhood-seeking teen years, and traumatic experiences in combat and back home, Shaffer demonstrates that society doesn't dictate who we are or will be-that is up to us. The path to who we can become lies through careful, daily exercise of will, repetition, and affirmation. Shaffer is convinced that the discipline he drew from this struggle can be of use to others. What it takes to overcome the broken state, Shaffer contends, is a willingness to face pain head-on and use adversity as rocket fuel to regain purpose and create resilience. In Legacy Mindset: Take Charge of Today and Build Extreme Resilience, Shaffer lays out the sinews and bones of the daily discipline that allowed him to repair what was broken and build upon it. He challenges us to: -Evaluate whether our pain is constructive or destructive -Reassess what things in life we assign value to -Radically change our daily habits by practicing micro-disciplines -Trust our intuition when it is telling us to speak up -Commit to excellence in everything we do-even when no one is watching

El legado de los monstruos. Tratado sobre el miedo y lo terrible

by Ignacio Padilla

Leggera come una Piuma: Light as a Feather

by Magali Dubreuil Bourguet

A story rich with poetry, emotion and humour, approaching the topic of Alzheimer's disease in a kind and quirky way. The meeting between two extraordinary women, separated by three generations, unites them into one, single, universal, artistic entity. This personal adventure, rich in poetry and emotion, makes us laugh and makes us cry. Alice and Piuma waltz through life to the melody of the passage of time. "She can play the piano at home but Alice wants to be listened to. She wants to create emotion and share it with people, make them feel it too. In their apartment, the rooms are too small, the walls are too close together so the notes cannot soar. They hit the walls and are suffocated. Notes need space to fly, spread out, escape and speak. They are chatty: they have lots of things to say or to share, for there must be at least two of them."

Leggera come una piuma: (Légère comme une plume)

by Magali Dubreuil Bourguet
