Resolving Conflict by Mediation: A Primer

by James H. Flanagan Gregory J. Zubacz

Since there are few quick-reference resources for resolving conflict, dispute managers may be very experienced in the subject matter of the dispute, but lack the experience of being a neutral dispute-resolver in charge of a mediation. This book is a primer of the mediation process for new or untrained mediators. Mediation is a highly-successful process for resolving disputes voluntarily. If done properly, it has an 80% success rate. The first half of the book discusses the wide range of conflicts that are frequently the subject of mediation. The range of issues include common conflicts that happen in life, such as family, work, church, and business. The causes of such conflicts are examined, the study of which is necessary to successfully mediating such situations. The second half gives a detailed and organized process of the common phases and steps of a typical mediation. The book concludes with an outline of some helpful resources, including books, websites, and legislation which provide some guidance for certain mediation situations.

Resonance: Nine Practices For Harmonious Health And Vitality

by Joyce Whitleley Hawkes

In Resonance, internationally respected cell biologist and healing facilitator, Joyce Hawkes, Ph.D., offers the best of science, spirit, and storytelling. Richly detailed with Joyce's experiences studying shamanic healing in South East Asia and stories of the people she has assisted back to health, this book will allow readers to explore their own ability to heal at every level. They will discover current research and fascinating findings about the language of their cells and how these tiny constituents of the body communicate, connect, and touch. Alongside this biological backdrop, they'll find fresh mind-body imagery, insights, and empowering healing techniques that will take them on a deep inner journey. Throughout the book, Hawkes also describes the profound, numinous experiences she shared with shamans, priests, and healers. Each chapter is presented as a couplet-two words, two related ideas that together provide a simple, grounded starting place for a personal practice of health and vitality. Resonance gives readers valuable tools to enhance their health at the cell-level, their spirit at the soul-level, and their consciousness at the mystery-level.

Respect

by R. W. Alley Ted O'Neal Jenny O'Neal

Childhood is the time for virtues to be taught--or, more accurately, "caught." And the virtue of respect is one sorely needed in a world more and more diverse, congested, and interdependent. Just what is respect? "It's a good way to be--and a way to be good," say the authors of this helpful, yet entertaining children's book. "It's a way to care about others, ourselves, and our world. When we have the virtue of respect, we try to treat people and our whole world with extra love and kindness."

Respect Trumps Harmony: Why being liked is overrated and constructive conflict gets results

by Rachael Robertson

Develop a high-performing team based on a culture where respect trumps harmonyAs teams become more diverse, we won’t always see eye to eye. We won’t agree on everything, and we may not even like each other. In order to achieve results, we need to have robust, candid and constructive discussions. Respect Trumps Harmony offers a proven approach to navigating the difficulties faced in teams and workplaces today. To build collaboration; strengthen innovation; and manage safety, risk and well-being, it’s critical that there is a foundation of respect, not harmony.Developed during author Rachael Robertson’s time leading one of the toughest workplaces on the planet—Davis Station, Antarctica—and further informed by over 15 years of research, case studies and feedback, Robertson suggests that harmony in the workplace is overrated, and can even be dangerous, and that above all else, respect is the key ingredient of a high-performance culture. A focus on respect over harmony improves everything from morale to productivity. Respect Trumps Harmony integrates the three pillars at the core of Robertson’s leadership practice: No triangles, The bacon wars, and Lead without a title, enabling you to:• Manage conflict and put an end to gossip• Improve accountability and the quality of feedback, • Recognise and manage dysfunctional behaviour• Build collaboration to strengthen innovation• Identify and manage risk• Inspire trust and confidence by displaying personal leadership, and encourage others to do the same irrespective of their titleRespect Trumps Harmony is a contemporary leadership handbook, essential for all modern leaders and those who wish to transform the culture within their own team.

Responding to Drinking Problems (Routledge Library Editions: Alcohol and Alcoholism)

by Stan Shaw Alan Cartwright Terry Spratley Judith Harwin

In the 1970s family doctors, social workers, researchers and administrators had been aware of the inadequacy of the response to drinking problems for some time. However, there had been no systematic examination of why such agents felt negatively about drinkers and disinclined to respond to them. Originally published in 1978, this book develops a radical new perspective on the prevalence and causes of drinking problems, combining reviews of historical and contemporary literature with the authors’ own research studies. This perspective is then linked to the need for an integrated response from both medical and social services, with a particular accent on the need for a community response. By focusing on the relationship between helper and helped a solution is sought to the question which has troubled the field for many years: why are agents like family doctors and social workers so inadequate in recognising and responding to people with drinking problems? The crucial aspects within the therapeutic relationship are pinpointed and experimental studies are described which show how training, casework, supervision and the redeployment of expertise can help improve recognition rates and responses to individual drinkers. This book thus expresses the need for major changes both in our attitudes and understanding of people with drinking problems and the difficulties of agents who try to help them. It should still be of historical interest to social scientists and those involved in helping people with drinking problems.

Response-Able: What My Father Taught Me About Life and Making a Difference

by Matthew Hagee

You Can Make a Difference! What if the churches of America could feed every hungry person in their cities? What if we had the resources to educate every child in an environment where respect for God was encouraged? What if we could help create jobs that empowered people and gave everyone the opportunity to give back in the same way that they had received? As a pastor, Matt Hagee recognizes that there are things in our world that need changing, and, like many younger Christians, he wants to be a part of the solution. In addition, Matt has received a rich legacy from his father--pastor and best-selling author John Hagee--that includes experiential wisdom rooted in solid biblical principles. In Response-Able he combines the passion of youth with the wisdom of his father’s experience to provide both the inspiration and the steps for a lasting change in each of five key areas: Your personal life Your finances Society Education Politics You can make a difference if you will become personally committed to doing so. No matter who you are, where you come from, or what you are going through, the time has come for a turnaround, and being "response-able” begins with you.

Responsible Drinking: A Moderation Management Approach For Problem Drinkers

by Frederick Rotgers Marc F. Kern Rudy Hoeltzel

Based on extensive scientific literature supporting moderation as a resolution for drinking problems, Responsible Drinking is the only book with research-based techniques that will help non-alcoholic readers overcome their drinking problems. This revolutionary workbook by the leading voices of the Moderation Management treatment approach starts by providing readers with definitive tools to help them discover whether they are problem drinkers or alcoholics. Readers whose problems are less severe than alcohol dependence are then helped to make an informed decision about whether to pursue moderation or to turn to abstinence.

For readers who identify themselves as problem drinkers, the workbook goes on to help them then learn to moderate their drinking and develop a healthier lifestyle. By adopting goals specific to their needs, readers make a commitment, examine the negative effects of alcohol use, identify their own triggers, and learn to take control of their behavior. Inspirational words of more than fifty individuals who have faced and overcome the same problems offer guidance and support. Resources are also provided to help any reader who chooses to pursue abstinence as an objective at any stage of the program.

Responsible Leadership: Lessons from the Front Line of Sustainability and Ethics

by Mark Moody-Stuart

As Chairman of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group from 1991–2001 and Anglo American plc from 2002–2009, Sir Mark Moody-Stuart is as qualified as anyone on the planet to discuss the realities, dilemmas and lessons to be learnt from the last 20 years of corporate engagement with sustainability, ethics and responsibility. In this unique book – part memoir, part confessional, part manifesto for leadership – we hear a unique voice from the front line of corporate responsibility. Moody-Stuart retraces the steps of a remarkable journey from being a postgraduate geologist to being at the helm of two of the largest corporations in the world. We hear of dealings with dictators and prime ministers, colleagues and NGOs, rivals and friends. We travel from Syria to Nigeria; Iraq to Downing Street; and from the machinations of the United Nations to those inside the boardroom of Shell. We see Shell’s annus horribilis in 1995 unfold through the eyes of an insider, and how Brent Spar and the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa sent shockwaves through the company, resulting in a complete reappraisal of its mission and principles. We hear about the oil and mining sectors and their complicated development role in areas of conflict and corruption; the way that markets have failed us on climate change and corruption; and how governments need to step up to the global challenges we face. We hear how Deepwater Horizon could have been avoided; what Shell were asked to do by Tony Blair during the UK fuel blockades of 2000 and why they declined; why China is too important to ignore; and why the Global Compact is too important to fail. We hear lessons from a life spent living in 10 different countries and we come to realize that, for corporations, trying to do the right thing can sometimes be almost impossible. We also come to know a deeply ethical and thoughtful leader who has always tried to do exactly that.

Rest: Why You Get More Done When You Work Less

by Alex Soojung-Kim Pang

"Rest is such a valuable book. If work is our national religion, Pang is the philosopher reintegrating our bifurcated selves."---Arianna Huffington, New York Times Book Review Overwork is the new normal. Rest is something to do when the important things are done—but they are never done. Looking at different forms of rest, from sleep to vacation, Silicon Valley futurist and business consultant Alex Soojung-Kim Pang dispels the myth that the harder we work the better the outcome. He combines rigorous scientific research with a rich array of examples of writers, painters, and thinkers—from Darwin to Stephen King—to challenge our tendency to see work and relaxation as antithetical. "Deliberate rest," as Pang calls it, is the true key to productivity, and will give us more energy, sharper ideas, and a better life. Rest offers a roadmap to rediscovering the importance of rest in our lives, and a convincing argument that we need to relax more if we actually want to get more done.

Rest is Resistance: Free yourself from grind culture and reclaim your life

by Tricia Hersey

'Essential...Rest is a necessary step in reclaiming our power to resist systemic oppression.' - Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Antiracist'Dreaming of a world that includes justice for all those sleep-deprived, exhausted and caught up in the hustle and shenanigans of white supremacy and capitalism. May we have space to navigate our lives from a liberated rest state. May all of culture slow down. The time to rest is now.' - The Nap MinistryBy founder and creator of The Nap Ministry, Rest is Resistance is a call-to-action for anyone suffering from the toxic urgency of modern-day life. It centres around the systemic issues that cause us to overwork, and ultimately burn out, and offers us liberation through rest. In its simplest form, rest becomes an act of resistance and a reclaiming of power because it disrupts and pushes back against capitalism and white supremacy. Slowing down moves us away from trying to operate at machine levels of productivity, to make us all more human. In this fierce and tender manifesto, Tricia Hersey, aka The Nap Bishop, elevates rest as a divine right, and paves the way towards a more well-rested life that empower imagination, invention and healing. Divided into four sections, Rest is Resistance will explain Tricia's philosophy and methods, and will include both storytelling and practical advice. It will offer you the guidance and context to craft a rest practice for long-term health, both within yourself and society as a whole.Rest is Resistance is not self-care: it is the urgent wake-up call you need to nap, rest and, most importantly, dream once more.

Rest Is Resistance: A Manifesto

by Tricia Hersey

***INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER***Disrupt and push back against capitalism and white supremacy. In this book, Tricia Hersey, aka The Nap Bishop, encourages us to connect to the liberating power of rest, daydreaming, and naps as a foundation for healing and justice. What would it be like to live in a well-rested world? Far too many of us have claimed productivity as the cornerstone of success. Brainwashed by capitalism, we subject our bodies and minds to work at an unrealistic, damaging, and machine‑level pace –– feeding into the same engine that enslaved millions into brutal labor for its own relentless benefit. In Rest Is Resistance, Tricia Hersey, aka the Nap Bishop, casts an illuminating light on our troubled relationship with rest and how to imagine and dream our way to a future where rest is exalted. Our worth does not reside in how much we produce, especially not for a system that exploits and dehumanizes us. Rest, in its simplest form, becomes an act of resistance and a reclaiming of power because it asserts our most basic humanity. We are enough. The systems cannot have us.Rest Is Resistance is rooted in spiritual energy and centered in Black liberation, womanism, somatics, and Afrofuturism. With captivating storytelling and practical advice, all delivered in Hersey&’s lyrical voice and informed by her deep experience in theology, activism, and performance art, Rest Is Resistance is a call to action, a battle cry, a field guide, and a manifesto for all of us who are sleep deprived, searching for justice, and longing to be liberated from the oppressive grip of Grind Culture.

In The Rest of Your Story, Pastor Greg Lindsey shows us why believing the &“right&” things or behaving the &“right&” way will never lead to our fullest life. True spiritual growth happens when we journey with Jesus back into our stories. Along with his own vulnerable story of redemption, Greg shares: The dangers of knowing the significance of our sin but not the significance of our stories Ways our spiritual enemy uses our past to keep us from realizing our purpose The difference between living forgiven and living free Why the places we are most afraid to go lead us to the life we don&’t want to miss What you&’ve done and what you&’ve experienced is not who you are. As you identify how your past is keeping you from experiencing Jesus&’ abundant life, you&’ll find that God can turn the deepest pain into your richest treasure.
