Waiting: A Nonbeliever's Higher Power
by Marya HornbacherFor those who don't believe in God—or don't know whether they believe— New York Times best-selling author Marya Hornbacher offers an insightful, moving approach to the concept of faith. For those who don't believe in God, feel disconnected from the ideas of God presented in organized religion, or are simply struggling to determine their own spiritual path, Marya Hornbacher, author of the New York Times best sellers Madness and Wasted, offers a down-to-earth exploration of the concept of faith. Many of us have been trained to think of spirituality as the sole provenance of religion; and if we have come to feel that the religious are not the only ones with access to a spiritual life, we may still be casting about for what, precisely, a spiritual life would be, without a God, a religion, or a solid set of spiritual beliefs. In Waiting, best-selling author Marya Hornbacher uses the story of her own journey beginning with her recovery from alcoholism to offer a fresh approach to cultivating a spiritual life. Relinquishing the concept of a universal "Spirit" that exists outside of us, Hornbacher gives us the framework to explore the human spirit in each of us--the very thing that sends us searching, that connects us with one another, the thing that "comes knocking at the door of our emotionally and intellectually closed lives and asks to be let in."When we let it in and only when we do, she says, we begin to be integrated people. And we begin to walk a spiritual path. And there are many points along the way where we stop, or we fumble, or we get tangled up or turned around. Those are the places where we wait.Waiting, you'll discover, can become a kind of spiritual practice in itself, requiring patience, acceptance, and stillness. Sometimes we do it because we know we need to, though we may not know why. In short, we do it on faith.Marya Hornbacher is the author of two best-selling nonfiction titles, Madness: A Bipolar Life and Wasted: A Memoir of Anorexia and Bulimia. She has also authored a recovery handbook, Sane: Mental Illness, Addiction, and the 12 Steps, and a critically acclaimed novel, The Center of Winter.

Wake Up!: Stop Sabotaging your Happiness and your Success
by Anne AstillerosHumans feel lonely. They don’t remember who they are, or what they live for. You are an eternal being, travelling along this and other universes, who in a moment makes a stop on this planet called Earth, with one unique purpose: to enjoy your terrestrial experience, while expanding Love and Joy. To help you create a life of happiness, well-being, and abundance, your Creating Parent endowed you with their Universal Principles, the Life Instructions Manual, with which we are all born, but so few can remember. What happened? Why are we not enjoying total happiness and abundance? Since you were a little baby, you were taught to focus your attention on the exterior, only on those things adults see with their limited vision. This is how you gradually forgot how to read your instruction manual; this is how you even forgot its existence inside of you. Oblivious to our interiority and having lost communication with our Self, we feel confused, lost, and aimless. We don’t remember who we are nor the unique mission we promised to accomplish in this lifetime. Once we stop listening to the voice of our Self, we give our full attention to the voice of our ego. Confused by its pseudo-protecting messages, we take its hand and let it guide us through its own paths of fear, struggle, distress, guilt, and self-sabotage. Author Anne Astilleros, not having forgotten who she is and how to use her own instruction manual, helps us remember how to use ours. She reminds us that: • You are not alone. • You are light and darkness; you are not perfect, and you will never be, and it’s okay! • You chose your Dad and Mom to remind you what not to do! • Your ego is not bad. It wants you to illuminate it, and only when you don’t, it punishes you. • Your ego is your best ally in your evolution. • And so much more...

Wake Up and Live!
by Dorothea BrandeOne of the very few greatest self-help books ever written. More than two millions copies sold. Still, it's not your typical, easy "believe in yourself and/or pretend to agree with everybody, and the success will surely be yours" sort of a book. If you "hate self-help" books then this one is just for you!Theres lots about creativity here, and about work requiring creativity. The Author was a creative person herself - a successful writer of fiction, who also wrote two non-fiction books that have won a well-deserved place among the greatest books in their kinds. One is the present one, the other "Becoming a Writer" - still most likely the best advice for all actual and aspiring creative writers - both on psychology and on practical aspects of their work. WAKE UP AND LIVE! is a practical handbook for every man and woman who wants to find success and happiness in life. Simply written and easy to read, it shows you how to overcome the obstacles that are holding you down. It will prove to you that the USE, not the quantity, of your brains is what counts most toward successful living. WAKE UP AND LIVE! has opened the eyes of thousands of readers to a whole new idea of living. Here is a book that can revolutionize your entire existence and put success within reach by teaching you to concentrate on the things that really matter. It took Dorothea Brande twenty years to write WAKE UP AND LIVE! During that time she wrote some forty-two short pieces of work, not one of which was complete. And then, discovering that she had reserves of energy she had not even begun to tap, she addressed herself to her writing with the slogan: Act as if it were impossible to fail. Wake Up and Live! has proved to be a contagious work because of that very enthusiasm. A case in point is that of the stenographer whose job it was to type the manuscript for the printer. The young lady was so impressed by what she was typing that she quit her job, went into business for herself, and in two months owned her own agency, employing three girls to help her. Nor is this an isolated case, as the hundreds of letters which have poured in to the publisher's offices demonstrate. The book definitely has something. Then, in 1935, Most Beautiful Lady was brought out, and had an excellent run. By this time, Miss Brande had started a nation-wide correspondence course in the art of fiction-writing. She was lecturing at schools and colleges, and what she offered was sound, practical advice. In February, 1936, Wake Up and Live! came out. The results were instantaneous - witness the stenographer and her metamorphosis. Dorothea Brande had not only found out how to use her own vitality to good purpose, but also how to give others the same release. She advocated not wishful thinking, but mental action. Perhaps it was just because her own work had been so hampered by a lack of concentrated energy that she was able to show others the obstacles that had to be surmounted. In 1938 the title of the book was sold to the movies to serve as a starring vehicle for Ben Bernie and Walter Winchell. The story has been translated into several foreign languages, including Danish, Swedish, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Dutch.

Wake Up Happy
by Veronica Chambers Michael StrahanFrom America's favorite football player turned morning talk show host--a man who makes just about everything look easy--a mélange of stories and motivational advice to inspire the reader to turn up the heat and go from good to great in pursuit of their personal ambitions.Michael Strahan spent his childhood on a military base in Europe, where community meant everything, and life, though idyllic, was different. For one, when people referenced football they meant soccer. So when Michael's father suggested he work toward a college scholarship by playing football in Texas, where tens of thousands of people show up for a weekend game, the odds were long. Yet he did, indeed, land a scholarship and from there a draft into the NFL where he scaled the league's heights, broke records, and helped his team win the Super Bowl as a result of which he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. How? By developing "Strahan's Rules"--a mix of mental discipline, positive thinking, and a sense of play. He also used the Rules to forge a successful post pro-ball career as cohost with Kelly Ripa on Live!--a position for which he was considered the longshot--and much more. In Wake Up Happy, Michael shares personal stories about how he gets and stays motivated and how readers can do the same in their quest to attain their life goals. Here are a few of "Strahan's Rules": 1) Listen to other people, but don't take their opinions for fact. Have your own experiences. Draw your own conclusions. 2) You can't change other people but you can change how you act around them. Usually, that's more than enough. 3) Don't pre-judge. Help can--and will--come from the most unexpected places. Be open to everything around you. Inspiring and chock full of advice that will help the reader make significant strides toward pursuing his or her dream, Wake Up Happy is a book no one, young or old, male or female will want to miss.
Wake Up or Break Up: 8 Crucial Steps to Strengthening Your Relationship
by Leonard FelderOne of the nation's top experts on how to improve complex family dynamics, Leonard Felder, Ph.D., has been counseling couples for more than 20 years. In his experience, the inklings of worry and moments of boredom that many individuals feel in their good relationships have to be addressed sooner rather than later to head off the loss of what could be a great relationship. Dr. Felder has found that by following the eight specific and realistic steps he outlines to address the problem areas that most often drive mates apart, couples can overcome the odds and create a healthy, immensely satisfying intimacy.A wealth of anecdotes from the author's practice provide fresh perspectives on such key issues as learning when to be flexible (and when you've gone too far!), becoming a caring lover, using the critical moments of "re-entry" after work or to increase intimacy, and coming through for your mate in a crisis. Upbeat and non-blaming, this is a book you can urge your mate to read without fear of provoking a fight or hurt feelings. Though it offers advice to both partners in traditional or same-sex couples, one of Dr. Felder's special gifts as a therapist is his ability to reach men and get them to take a more proactive role in strengthening their relationships.

Waking From Sleep: Why Awakening Experiences Occur And How To Make Them Permanent
by Steve TaylorHow much of your waking time are you fully awake? On the other hand, how often do you stumble through the day on autopilot, half-asleep and out of contact with yourself, instead of feeling connected and alive? In this astounding book, Steve Taylor suggests that our normal consciousness is really a kind of "sleep" from which we sometimes "wake up" into a more intense and complete reality. He provides what is perhaps the first-ever clear explanation of higher states of consciousness, or "awakening experiences." This work delves into: • the methods we human beings have used throughout history to induce awakening experiences, including meditation, sex, sports, psychedelic drugs, and sleep deprivation • how higher states of consciousness were normal and natural to some of the world’s peoples (and still are, in some cases) • and how we can make "wakefulness" our normal state again.By fully explaining awakening experiences, the author makes them much more accessible, which may lead to a revolution in our psychological development as human beings!

Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion
by Sam HarrisFor the millions of Americans who want spirituality without religion, Sam Harris's new book is a guide to meditation as a rational spiritual practice informed by neuroscience and psychology.
From multiple New York Times bestselling author, neuroscientist, and "new atheist" Sam Harris, Waking Up is for the 30 percent of Americans who follow no religion, but who suspect that Jesus, Buddha, Lao Tzu, Rumi, and the other saints and sages of history could not have all been epileptics, schizophrenics, or frauds. Throughout the book, Harris argues that there are important truths to be found in the experiences of such contemplatives--and, therefore, that there is more to understanding reality than science and secular culture generally allow.
Waking Up is part seeker's memoir and part exploration of the scientific underpinnings of spirituality. No other book marries contemplative wisdom and modern science in this way, and no author other than Sam Harris--a scientist, philosopher, and famous skeptic--could write it.
