Christmas in Camelot

by Mary Pope Osborne and Sal Murdocca

The Magic Tree House series has become a staple for inspiring kids to read. Christmas in Camelot is a very special Magic Tree House book. Here, author Mary Pope Osborne uses the literary skills for which she's known to create a longer, more in-depth story featuring the characters kids have come to love. The result is magical: a fast-paced but detailed, easy-to-read story. Jack and Annie go on a quest to save Camelot, a quest that will prove to a beleaguered King Arthur that children and imagination really can make a difference. From the Hardcover edition.

Dreambender

by Ronald Kidd

Everyone in the City is assigned a job by the choosers--keeper, catcher, computer. Callie Crawford is a computer. She works with numbers: putting them together, taking them apart. Her work is important, but sometimes she wants more. Jeremy Finn is a dreambender. His job is to adjust people's dreams. He and others like him quietly remove thoughts of music and art to keep people in the City from becoming too focused on themselves and their own feelings rather than on the world. They need to keep the world safe from another Warming. But Jeremy thinks music is beautiful, and when he pops into a dream of Callie singing, he becomes fascinated with her. He begins to wonder if there is more to life than being safe. Defying his community and the role they have established for him, he sets off to find her in the real world. Together, they will challenge their world's expectations. But how far will they go to achieve their own dreams?

The One and Only Ivan

by Katherine Applegate and Patricia Castelao

Ivan is an easygoing gorilla. Living at the Exit 8 Big Top Mall and Video Arcade, he has grown accustomed to humans watching him through the glass walls of his domain. He rarely misses his life in the jungle. In fact, he hardly ever thinks about it at all.

Instead, Ivan thinks about TV shows he's seen and about his friends Stella, an elderly elephant, and Bob, a stray dog. But mostly Ivan thinks about art and how to capture the taste of a mango or the sound of leaves with color and a well-placed line.

Then he meets Ruby, a baby elephant taken from her family, and she makes Ivan see their home-and his own art-through new eyes. When Ruby arrives, change comes with her, and it's up to Ivan to make it a change for the better.

Katherine Applegate blends humor and poignancy to create Ivan's unforgettable first-person narration in a story of friendship, art, and hope.

The Littles Give a Party

by John Peterson

It's a dangerous life, being smaller than six inches tall so it's truly amazing that Granny will be turning eighty on her Fourth of July birthday. Instead of being excited about it, she's worried that she's too old and has stopped paying attention to anything. Tom and Lucy, her great grandchildren and their family think a big party will cheer her up. The trouble is, most of Granny's favorite people think they are too old to travel to the party and riding in Cousin Dinky's glider is too risky. The Little's have a long list of adventures ahead to pull off the party. They must rig up a swimming pool, smuggle hot dogs, and hardest of all, they have to sneak young Henry's toy airplane out of his room at night to fly the guests to the party. Except for having to hear Dinky's terrible singing, it's all worth it because Granny is so excited to see her friends. Bookshare has many more books about the family who uses thimbles for wastebaskets and finger puppets on cereal boxes for costumes. Some of the Little's books are: The Littles, The Littles Take a Trip, The Littles and the Surprise Thanksgiving Guests, The Littles to the Rescue, Tom Little's Halloween Scare, The Littles and the Trash Tinies, The Littles Go to School, The Littles Get Trapped, and The Littles and the Missing Cat.
