by Prabodhankar Thakareगेल्या पिढीतील एक थोर समाजसुधारक, विचारवंत आणि निर्भिड विचारांचे पत्रकार म्हणून प्रबोधनकार ठाकरे यांचे नाव सर्वपरिचित आहे. पत्रकार म्हणून त्यांनी “प्रबोधन” मधून आपल्या हिंदु समाजातील जुन्या दुष्ट रूढी, अंधश्रद्धा, जातीभेद आणि या सर्वांच्या पाठीमागे असलेल्या वर्णश्रेष्ठत्वाच्या कल्पना यावर अगदी घणाघाती प्रहार केले. म्हणूनच के. सी. ठाकरे या नावापेक्षा “प्रबोधनकार ठाकरे” हेच त्यांचे नाव अधिक परिचित झाले. पण ठाकरे यांच्या व्यक्तिमत्वाला आणखीही काही पैलू होते. ते केवळ समाजसुधारक आणि तेजस्वी विचारांचे पत्रकार नव्हते. ते स्वतः उत्तम लेखकही होते आणि त्यांच्या लेखनाला कवित्वाचाही स्पर्श होता. प्रारंभीच्या काळात त्यांचा “नाटक” आणि प्रत्यक्ष रंगभूमी यांच्याशी निकटचा संबंध आला होता. समाजसुधारणेचा ध्यास घेऊन त्यांनी अनेक नाटके लिहिली. त्या नाटकांचे आजच्या नव्या पिढीला स्मरण नसले तरी अन्यायावर प्रहार करणारा नाटककार या भूमिकेतूनच त्यांनी हे ललित-लेखन केले आहे.
