Portable Low-Field MRI Scanners: Hardware, Imaging Methods, and Applications (Synthesis Lectures on Biomedical Engineering)

It begins by presenting a historical overview of MRI system design and discussing current developments. It then analyzes the underlying physics of MRI from a semi-classical perspective before describing the major hardware components of low-field scanners (including the magnet, coils, transmitters, receivers, gradient systems, and digital processors) in detail. The Origins of the Idea of Scientific Progress: Bernard de Fontenelle and His Contemporaries (International Archives of the History of Ideas Archives internationales d'histoire des idées #250)
by Daniel ŠpeldaThis volume offers a new interpretation of the genesis of the idea of scientific progress in early modern science and philosophy. The interpretation argues that the idea of scientific progress was not a historical category, but an epistemological one. The main thesis of the book posits that the idea of scientific progress was a methodological means of dealing with the contingency of nature. To illustrate the novelty of the idea, the individual chapters compare several features of Renaissance natural philosophy with a new regime of knowledge that included time as an inevitable factor of empirical research. The temporal regime of knowledge is illustrated by the work of Bernard de Fontenelle and his colleagues at the Académie des sciences in Paris at the end of the 17th century. The new interpretation remedies a gap in recent scholarship where the idea of scientific progress has been overlooked even though the early modern natural philosophers themselves used it to describe the nature of their research. The book places both well-known texts and less-studied documents in a new light, thus contributing to the lively and rich debate on the origins and nature of early modern science and philosophy. It is of interest to scholars studying the history of early modern philosophy and science.

The Conference ICTM’2023 was held in Kharkiv, Ukraine, during December, 2023. During this conference, technical exchanges between the research community were carried out in the forms of keynote speeches, panel discussions, as well as special session. In addition, participants were treated to a series of receptions, which forge collaborations among fellow researchers. ICTM’2023 received 202 papers submissions from different countries. All of these offer us plenty of valuable information and would be of great benefit to the experience exchange among scientists in modeling and simulation. The organizers of ICTM’2023 made great efforts to ensure the success of this conference. We hereby would like to thank all the members of ICTM’2023 Advisory Committee for their guidance and advice, the members of program committee and organizing committee, and the referees for their effort in reviewing and soliciting the papers, and all authors for their contribution to the formation of a common intellectual environment for solving relevant scientific problems.
