The Emmanuel Project: In Search of the Nazarene A Novel
by Ronald BrueckmannAn ex-commando for the Israeli Defense Force is reunited with his estranged Christian father when they are recruited to participate in a time-travel experiment. A think-tank of the brightest physicists on the planet, working in secret for decades at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, has created a device that can manipulate the space/time continuum. Unable to verify a successful foray into the past, the physicists enlist the aid of the father, an eminent archelogy professor, and his adventurer son, to substantiate the placement of a subject into the deep past, from where he can never return. To mitigate theoretical time paradox interference the First Century is chosen as the temporal destination, and the father and son devise an ingenious way to communicate through the intervening millennia. As the father prepares his son for the journey, the two grow closer, and in a final act of love the son promises his father he will look for evidence of Jesus if the experiment is a success and he is placed in ancient Israel. The son departs, and the father spends a lifetime searching the Hebrew tombs of Israel for a message he never finds until he is forced into retirement because of what the Chancellor of Tel Aviv University considers to be increasingly eccentric behavior. The time-jump is successful, and the son materializes on the beach outside the ancient city of Caesarea. Though he trains for months for his adventure, he quickly finds he is not prepared for the rigors of life in First Century Palestine. Running afoul of the Romans he is imprisoned and sold into slavery to a wealthy Roman merchant. Struggling to acclimate to his new situation, he eventually settles into a protected life with the merchant and his mission and his promise to his father are forgotten. Allowed to travel around the province on trading missions, he meets a farmer in Jericho, becoming betrothed to the man&’s daughter, and learns of a young rabbi who is gathering a following in the Galilee. Escaping the merchant&’s home, the time-traveler heads for Capernaum to verify if the Rabbi is truly Jesus.Finding that the Rabbi has departed Capernaum for Jerusalem, the time-traveler follows on a quest through the Holy Land, becoming entangled in the conflict between his ancestors and the Roman occupiers. Arriving in Jerusalem at Passover only to find that the rabbi Yeshua has already been executed, he happens upon one of the Rabbi&’s followers who invites him to journey back to Capernaum. There in the fishing town beside he Sea of Galilee, he bears witness to the birth of Christianity, and sends a message through the ages to his father.A Christian adventure tale in the tradition of Ben Hur and The Robe combined with the speculative technology of The Time Machine and Timeline, The Emmanuel Project will appeal to both religious and secular readers.

Luke: The Compassion of Christ (Jeremiah Bible Study Series)
by Dr. David JeremiahJesus is the Great Physician...Follow Dr. Jeremiah through the gospel of Luke in a chapter-by-chapter study that will help you understand what it meant to the people at the time it was written, and what it means to Christians today. According to the apostle Paul, Luke was a "beloved physician" who traveled with him on several of his missionary journeys. However, Luke's real passion was in setting down an orderly account that detailed the birth, ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus. This was a task for which Luke was well suited, for he was both a thoughtful man of science and a great observer of people.Luke took great care in relating the information he collected, but he also emphasized the care that Jesus, as the Great Physician, extended to people everywhere—both Jewish and Gentile alike. Each of this study's twelve lessons is clearly organized to include:Getting Started: An opening question to introduce you to the lesson.Setting the Stage: A short reflection to explain the context of the study.Exploring the Text: The Scripture reading for the lesson with related study questions.Reviewing the Story: Questions to help you identify key points in the reading.Applying the Message: Questions to help you apply the key ideas to their lives.Reflecting on the Meaning: A closing reflection on the key teachings in the lesson.—ABOUT THE SERIES—The Jeremiah Bible Study Series captures Dr. David Jeremiah's forty-plus years of commitment in teaching the Word of God. In each study, you'll gain insights into the text, identify key stories and themes, and be challenged to apply the truths you uncover to your life. By the end of each study, you'll come away with a clear and memorable understanding of that Bible book. Each study also contains a Leader&’s Guide.
The Train Before Dawn
by Janice HuszarNo one seemed to notice. Or if they did, it was the cuteness: bangs and big brown eyes speckled with gold when the sun hit. Johnny wasn&’t very tall at age 5 when his life on the streets began, so crowds, sometimes reckless, passed without even seeing the child. They couldn&’t know he was an orphan, hungry, living alone, frightened, feeling physical pain from his loss and abandonment; that he slept on a cot in a fetal position covered only by sheets. They were his shield against evil, and he managed heroically to endure daily misery with its terrifying bedtime. The last time he saw his mother she was sleeping in a box by the window in the parlor with tape across her mouth. When Johnny understood it was forever, he relied on happy memories to help his sadness; an outdoor birthday party, mama swirling around with flowers in her hair like a princess in a book, dancing, playing with the little children, pouring lemonade. Oh, how he adored his sweet mother. He loved his backyard too; the grapevines so good for hide and seek, the honeysuckle, the apple tree, even though mama said it was sick and don&’t eat any. Then papa, whom he also revered, stole him away from his bed just before dawn so his aunts wouldn&’t see, and hurried along the river toward the train, mostly with Johnny in his arms. Where better to hide his child than behind the fun and fantasy of Coney Island? It promised a new life of joy and healing of sorrow. But Johnny longed for the familial embrace.&“Try a little mustard on it,&” says Abe, the gray-bearded hot dog vendor, to the boy he had seen walking wearily the streets and midways of the famous amusement park. Mr. Abe becomes Johnny&’s best friend on the street, sage with a soft heart. Truant but innocent, the child is eager for knowledge: first learning to read from discarded newspapers and comic books. Eating from generosity and sleeping in fear, Johnny exists with unusual dignity. His friends, carnival workers and a neighbor family, and of course, Abe, are reticent to report the extended absences of the father, afraid Johnny will be taken into custody.Suffering is a way of life for Johnny, even when living in the thought-to-be safety of the boys&’ orphanage in upstate New York. He would spend years from age 8 to high school graduation but not without harm. Yet John forgave the headmaster and his wife as he&’d been taught by his true Master. As God watched over John, seeing him become a righteous young man, surely, he remembered crafting Eve for lonely Adam. Might it now be time for a comforting romantic intervention?
