The Islamist Turn on Ideological Grounds: Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Iran in Comparative Perspective (Middle East Today)
by Adnan TüregünMany states in the Islamic Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia that had previously experienced some measure of secularism turned to Islam in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. In so doing, they have changed the political landscape of their nations and the entire region, also significantly influencing international politics. The Islamist Turn outlines, explains, and demonstrates this change. And, on all three counts, the book fills an important gap in our collective knowledge by developing a typology of Islamist turns based on the institutional aspect of the change; offering an ideational explanation of the turns with an emphasis on the political ideologies and strategies of rulers; and studying the cases of Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, and Iran as exemplary of the Islamist turns in the region.
Queer Provincialism: Narratives and Resilience of Rural India
by Kaustav Chakraborty Himadri RoyThis book focuses on the plight of the queer people in rural India. By examining how rural life shapes queer identities, the book offers a fresh perspective that bridges the gap between urban and rural queer communities. While on one hand, it elucidates the various ways in which people living in the Indian villages deal with the queer subjects and subjectivities, on the other hand, it explores the ways in which the process of growing up in the countryside makes its impact on its village queers. Drawing from personal experiences, ethnographic research, and cultural representations, this multidisciplinary book explores the intersection of gender, sexuality, and rural landscapes. It delves into the historical and cultural forces that influence the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, asexual, and transgender individuals in provincial India. The collaborative effort by activists and scholars across fields such as literary studies, gender studies, political science, and more provides a rich analysis of the rural queer experience. It challenges the urban-centric narrative and contributes significantly to gender and sexuality studies, sociology, cultural studies, and subaltern studies.

Vaccine Hesitancy Curriculum: A Guide for Health Professions Educators
by Amanda J. Chase Michelle L. Demory Marc M. KesselmanVaccination is considered one of humanity&’s most transformative medical breakthroughs, with its origins tracing back to Edward Jenner&’s groundbreaking smallpox vaccine in the late 18th century. Though early skepticism of vaccines was formidable, rigorous scientific investigation and countless documented successes established vaccination as a cornerstone of modern medicine. For generations, vaccination was considered one of the surest ways to prevent death and suffering from infectious diseases, fundamentally reshaping global public health outcomes. However, advances in social networking and the influence of an anti-vaccination movement have reignited vaccine hesitancy on a scale not seen since the pre-modern era. Empowering healthcare providers with the skills to engage in meaningful dialogue with patients and the community about vaccines is paramount to addressing vaccine hesitancy and rebuilding public trust in vaccination programs. This comprehensive book first lays a foundation for understanding vaccine hesitancy by exploring the historical sources of mistrust in vaccines and science. Subsequent chapters highlight evidence-based approaches to cultivate communication skills and foster meaningful dialogue in patient interactions, while emphasizing empathetic practice and self-reflection in health professions trainees. Beyond theoretical foundations, it provides practical tools and strategies for addressing the most challenging aspects of vaccine communication. When these communication principles are thoughtfully applied in clinical settings, they become powerful tools for combating misinformation, dismantling deeply held misconceptions, and nurturing patient trust.

Praktijkboek persoonlijkheidsdiagnostiek
