Internet of Things, Infrastructures and Mobile Applications: Proceedings of the 13th IMCL Conference (Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing #1192)
by Michael E. Auer Thrasyvoulos TsiatsosThis book gathers papers on interactive and collaborative mobile learning environments, assessment, evaluation and research methods in mobile learning, mobile learning models, theory and pedagogy, open and distance mobile learning, life-long and informal learning using mobile devices, wearables and the Internet of Things, game-based learning, dynamic learning experiences, mobile systems and services for opening up education, mobile healthcare and training, case studies on mobile learning, and 5G network infrastructure. Today, interactive mobile technologies have become the core of many—if not all—fields of society. Not only do the younger generation of students expect a mobile working and learning environment, but also the new ideas, technologies and solutions introduced on a nearly daily basis also boost this trend. Discussing and assessing key trends in the mobile field were the primary aims of the 13th International Conference on Interactive Mobile Communication Technologies and Learning (IMCL2019), which was held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 31 October to 01 November 2019. Since being founded in 2006, the conference has been devoted to new approaches in interactive mobile technologies, with a focus on learning. The IMCL conferences have since become a central forum of the exchange of new research results and relevant trends, as well as best practices. The book’s intended readership includes policymakers, academics, educators, researchers in pedagogy and learning theory, schoolteachers, further education lecturers, practitioners in the learning industry, etc.
Real Time Reduced Order Computational Mechanics: Parametric PDEs Worked Out Problems (SISSA Springer Series #5)
by Gianluigi Rozza Francesco Ballarin Leonardo Scandurra Federico PichiThe book is made up by several worked out problems concerning the application of reduced order modeling to different parametric partial differential equations problems with an increasing degree of complexity. This work is based on some experience acquired during lectures and exercises in classes taught at SISSA Mathematics Area in the Doctoral Programme “Mathematical Analysis, Modelling and Applications”, especially in computational mechanics classes, as well as regular courses previously taught at EPF Lausanne and during several summer and winter schools. The book is a companion for master and doctoral degree classes by allowing to go more deeply inside some partial differential equations worked out problems, examples and even exercises, but it is also addressed for researchers who are newcomers in computational mechanics with reduced order modeling. In order to discuss computational results for the worked out problems presented in this booklet, we will rely on the RBniCS Project. The RBniCS Project contains an implementation in FEniCS of the reduced order modeling techniques (such as certified reduced basis method and Proper Orthogonal Decomposition-Galerkin methods) for parametric problems that will be introduced in this booklet.

Emergent Poetics: Ecological Sites in Contemporary Poetry (Modern and Contemporary Poetry and Poetics)
by Travis W. MattesonThis book proposes the term 'emergent poetics' to synthesize two divergent strands in contemporary literary media theory - the media archaeology of material inscriptions and the systems view of media ecology, which considers media as complex nodes of exchange. Emergent poetics emphasizes the speculative, non-prosthetic quality of media: the anthrodecentric perspective that media do not simply extend human senses, but instead consist of properties that exceed human apprehension. This study builds on Eve Kosofky Sedgwick’s theory of reparative reading, contemporary media theory, and Bruno Latour’s Actor-Network Theory, which are united in their skepticism regarding the paranoid “unveiling” gesture of institutional critique, their emphasis on methodology rather than theoretical ideology, and their insistence on assembling rather than deconstructing. In response to these three trends, this project begins by attending to what Jerome McGann calls the bibliographic code (material forms), while simultaneously expanding this medium specific perspective by situating written works within their broader media ecosystems, tracing interactions among media, humans, and nonhumans.
Sustainable Finance for SMEs: The Role of Capital for Sustainable and Inclusive Growth (Sustainable Finance)
by Mauro Aliano Greta Cestari Salvatore MadonnaOne of the greatest challenges facing humanity is to achieve sustainable and inclusive growth. In addition to public and state financial resources, policymakers leverage private companies to promote sustainable growth through green investments and innovations, encouraging private initiatives and financial activities. In this context, SMEs play a crucial role not only at the European level but also as economic actors implementing and pursuing policy goals. This book focuses on the capital and financial aspects of SME activities for sustainable and inclusive growth, aiming to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art. Starting from a business economics perspective, the book discusses financial instruments for both the short and long term. Supply Chain Finance (SCF) offers a theoretical framework for short-term instruments, improving overall supply chain sustainability through companies’ choices of suppliers, buyers, customers, financial institutions, and technology providers. Innovations such as FinTechs and Blockchain can enhance the effectiveness of sustainable business and bring about substantial changes in relationships among different actors. With regard to long-term instruments like debt capital, the book analyzes the traditional banking channel along with the role of the financial market. Factors such as the impact of FinTechs and other innovations on market efficiency have the potential to change financing activities, making relationships more complex and binding. In this complex system, new laws and regulations can mean sudden changes in terms of providing loans. The banking sector is increasingly using CSR drivers to assess creditworthiness and integrating green lending into credit policy, in keeping with central bank decisions and international board standards. These rules supplement existing ones on prudential supervision, capital buffers, and the broader international regulatory framework for banks. Lastly, the book explores the potential impact of “greenwashing” on SMEs pursuing sustainable practices. To address this, it proposes an approach to measuring sustainability for Italian SMEs based on a survey of 2500 enterprises and provides Matlab tools for investigating green and other sustainable behaviors.
The Patagonian Shelfbreak Front: Ecology, Fisheries, Wildlife Conservation (Aquatic Ecology Series #13)
by E. Marcelo Acha Oscar Osvaldo Iribarne Alberto R. PiolaThis book provides a compilation of basic information on the topic of the Patagonian Shelfbreak front, but integrally reanalyzes this under modern paradigms. The book provides a synthesis of the ecosystem characteristics, encompassing physical and chemical oceanography, plankton, nekton and benthos communities, fisheries and conservation issues. It provides hypothesis to guide future research, and recommendations for policymakers and stakeholders. Fronts play key roles in marine ecosystems, and shelfbreak fronts are ubiquitous elsewhere in the world ocean, broadening the interest of our proposal. The Patagonian shelfbreak front is a hot spot of marine life, with several associated fisheries and intensive use by marine birds and mammals. This book will contribute to fill the information gap of the Southwestern Atlantic, a region where there is a growing interest in terms of conservation and management actions. Its primary audience are researchers and postgraduate students, being also relevant for conservation scientists and resource managers.

by Tanveer Saleh Mir Akmam Noor Rashid Wan Ahmad Bin Wan Azhar Wazed Ibne NoorThis book covers the various aspects of laser micromachining (LBMM) and micro electro-discharge machining (uEDM) sequential hybrid process. LBMM-mEDM-based hybrid micromachining is a growing interest among researchers because of its unique features to harness the advantages of the two primary methods. This book guides the readers to implement this LBMM-mEDM-based hybrid process for the micromachining process efficiently to achieve a higher production rate with improved machining quality. It will provide the basic understanding about the LBMM-mEDM process, how the primary process's parameters affect the overall performance of the hybrid machining's outcome, how the hybrid process can be mathematically modelled to describe various observed phenomena of the said micromachining method. This book caters to researchers and industrial practitioners who are interested in precision and high throughput machining.
