Telling a Better Story: How to Talk About God in a Skeptical Age
by Joshua D. ChatrawChristianity Today 2021 Book Award Winner: Apologetics & EvangelismTelling a Better Story clears a path to a more effective, empathetic apologetics for today—both for experienced apologists and those new to sharing their faith with others.Today's Christians often view the practice of defending their faith as pushy or unnecessary. Won't it just be taken for proselytizing? Don't many unbelievers find it offensive? Many Christians have shifted to a strategy of hoping that our lives will show Christ to our neighbors—and, while this is certainly good, it's no substitute to actively telling people about Christ. In Telling a Better Story, author Joshua Chatraw presents a new and refreshing way to engage in apologetics that will help you tell the story of Christ in a holistic, culturally-contextual manner that—while being respectful—helps unbelievers imagine a more complete happiness and a better meaning to life.Telling a Better Story will give you the tools to:Understand the cultural stories that surround us.Recognize how these secular stories have shaped the way many people think.Learn how to tell God's story in a fresh way that allows today's younger generations to see it as a more meaningful and more hopeful story than the scripts around it.Finally, you'll also learn how to deal with the perennial issues and common objections to Christianity.

Religionssoziologische Gottesbilder: Theoretische Bestimmung und empirische Typenbildung (Veröffentlichungen der Sektion Religionssoziologie der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Soziologie)
by Georg ReiffDieses Buch untersucht individuelle Gottesvorstellungen christlicher Gläubiger.
Beyond Nature and Nurture: Perspectives on Human Multidimensionality (Synthese Library #497)
by Javier Pérez-Jara Íñigo OngayThis book gathers several of the world&’s leading scholars in the nature vs. nurture debate, offering a timely reconsideration of the dynamic interactions between physical, chemical, biological, social, and cultural factors that shape human multidimensionality. Emphasizing this multidimensionality, this edited volume seeks to bridge the divide between biology and social theory—two research communities that have too often overlooked each other. These disciplines, despite being central to understanding human nature, have long operated in isolation. While some animal species exhibit higher degrees of phenotypic plasticity in specific traits, humans stand out as the most plastic species in both their neurological and sociocultural systems. This plasticity leads the contributors of this book to move beyond both biological reductionism and the blank-slate hypothesis. While biology undoubtedly plays a role in shaping and stabilizing human social and cultural processes, it does so only within the framework of an inherently social environment—one shaped by historically contingent and socially constructed realities, such as values, codes, and cultural perceptions. More importantly, cultural structures and social interactions actively shape and transform certain biological features that were once considered immutable. This book lays the groundwork for a productive dialogue among biologists, psychologists, social theorists, and philosophers. It also highlights some of the moral and political consequences of different perspectives within the nature vs. nurture debate. Through updated scientific and philosophical theorizing, the chapters in this book aim to overcome, once and for all, the simplistic yet persistent opposition between nature and nurture, offering a far more complex and dynamic—yet richer and epistemologically manageable—picture of the human being.
Food Literacy, Curriculum, and The Global South: Examples from South Asia
by Dishari ChattarajThis volume explores concepts and theories of food literacy to understand the interdisciplinary paradigms, perspectives, and emerging discourses in and beyond formal educational contexts in the Global South, specifically South Asia. In doing so, this volume provides a comprehensive overview of existing literature on food literacy and the methodologies utilized to study the same across the Global North and South. Furthermore, this volume reports the findings of a primary research study conducted in the domain of curriculum analysis across school education boards of six South Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. It also documents the teaching-learning experiences and perceptions of various stakeholders from select schools and regions in India. Besides highlighting the dynamic, contextual, and place-based nature of food literacies, the volume questions the autonomous nature of literacy studies, thereby promoting a less deterministic and more sustainable, inclusive, and discursive paradigm of food literacy/literacies.

Political Spirituality in the Face of Climate Collapse: Of Monsters, Megaliths, Mules, and Muck
by James W. PerkinsonThis book takes its motive force from our contemporary climate crisis. It seeks to reorient human (and especially Christian) understanding, towards a more ecologically-focused, indigenously-informed way-of-living. James W. Perkinson argues that our current eco-climatic and socio-political emergency is the culmination of a 5,000-year history of supremacist “settlement,” in which city-states first emergent in Mesopotamia and Egypt not only begin coercively organizing labor into surplus production and ecosystems into inordinate and destructive yields of “goods,” but in the process, also simultaneously “deform” the Spirit-World “haloing” of natural phenomenon into outsized service of imperial reach. Perkinson recognizes globalized humanity as an emerging monstrosity destroying both human culture and the world. How we re-envision and revalue, at our critical juncture, our inescapable interdependence with the more-than-human world as peer and teacher and even “elder,” is the central theme that throbs below the surface of the very disparate topics commanding attention in each chapter.

The Migration-Development Nexus in the European Union (Studien zur Migrations- und Integrationspolitik)
by Alexandra BergerThis book researches the migration-development nexus in the foreign policies of the European Union. The author conceptualizes the nexus as a public policy framework situated at the intersection of home affairs and foreign affairs and studies it from the perspective of the advocacy coalition framework. Amalgamating two diverse traditional EU policy fields, the nexus brings together two very different kinds of policy actors: Development policy actors and migration policy actors. These actors have different interests and goals and represent fundamentally different policy logics, therefore forming different policy communities. The amalgamation of these two policy logics in the migration-development nexus ultimately explains the inherent inconsistencies, but also the success of the nexus as an EU public policy.

World Atlas of Freshwater Macrophytes: Dicotyledonous species II (Molluginaceae – Tetrachondraceae) - Volume 2 (Wetlands: Ecology, Conservation and Management #11)
by Kevin Murphy Tatiana Lobato-de Magalhães Eugenio Molina-Navarro Marinus L. OtteThis book is the second volume of a compendium of the global distribution of some 3500 aquatic macrophyte species occurring in inland freshwater and brackish waterbodies worldwide, highlighting aspects of their ecology including endemism, world rarity, ecozone/ macroregional occurrence, ploidy state, species age, uses, and endangered status. This book provides a novel resource on the distribution and ecology of macrophytes around the world. The Atlas fills a gap in scientific knowledge of the global ecology of an important group of aquatic plants. It highlights the expansion of invasive species and describes hotspots of endemism and rarity for freshwater macrophytes across the planet. The data included in this book range from karyological to biogeographical studies on macrophytes, within a general theme of understanding the environmental factors that drive the biodiversity, ecology, landscape genetics, and conservation of aquatic plants in freshwater ecosystems. The second volume of the World Atlas of Freshwater Macrophytes: Dicotyledonous species II (Molluginaceae – Tetrachondraceae) covers 21 botanical families and 824 species of aquatic macrophytes. The authors, based in Mexico, Scotland, Spain, and the USA are members of an informal international research network, set up in 2017 by retired aquatic botanist Kevin Murphy, which is dedicated to advancing macroecological knowledge of freshwater macrophytes in the inland freshwater and brackish waterbodies of worldwide wetland ecosystems. The topic of this book is relevant not only to scholars and academics but also to practitioners in wetland management, decision makers, and aquatic plant hobbyists.
