Structural and Technological Transformation of Education in the Post-Pandemic Period: Problems and Prospects (Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems #1282)

Uncertainty and Explanation in Medicine and the Health Sciences
by Olaf DammannThis book offers a comprehensive account of how uncertainty is tackled in medicine and the health sciences. Olaf Dammann explores recent accounts of medicine as ineffective and suggests that the impression that medicine does not achieve its goal is, at least in part, due to the aleatoric (natural) uncertainty of biomedical processes and the subsequent epistemic (cognitive) uncertainty of those who desire solid information about such processes. Dammann shows how concepts like inference, explanation, and causometry help mitigate this disconnect. He points toward the possibility that some of the statistically rigid and formalized approaches (such as the randomized controlled trial as the gold standard for the justification of medical interventions) might better be replaced by approaches that emphasize the coherence of evidence and the people’s needs for helpful health interventions (auxiliarianism).

Miseducation: Inequality, Education and the Working Classes (21st Century Standpoints)
by Diane ReayEducation is supposed to level the playing field, and yet for many working-class children inequalities in the classroom in fact deepen the divide. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds are almost four times more likely to be excluded from school than their wealthier peers and many are struggling in an educational environment increasingly concerned with discipline. In this substantially revised and updated edition of her bestselling book, Diane Reay – herself working class turned Cambridge professor – investigates why we educate social classes so differently. Drawing on extensive interviews with working class children and young people, Miseducation offers a sharp critique of how class identity, social mobility, and entrenched inequalities shape educational outcomes. It also examines the increasing focus on control and discipline in UK schools and charts the impact of policies like academies on working-class students. In a new chapter, Reay draws lessons from educational systems around the world, while a second presents clear recommendations for creating a system that supports every child’s potential. Insightful and thought-provoking, this book is essential reading for anyone invested in the future of education and social equity.
Land, Capital and Extractive Frontiers: Social Conflict and Ecological Crisis in the Senegal River Delta (Alternatives to Capitalism in the 21st Century)
by Maura BenegiamoThis book examines ‘land-grabbing’ - its colonial roots and the fraught relationship between capital and nature amidst the current global socio-ecological crisis. Through ethnographic and archival research, Maura Benegiamo investigates an Italian company’s acquisition of 20,000 hectares in Senegal’s River Delta for agrofuel production and delves into the struggles of pastoral communities affected by the project. Through this landmark case, the book shows how European energy and global food security policies are reshaping rural spaces, expanding agrarian extractivism in sub-Saharan Africa. By shedding light on how contemporary capital–nature relationships perpetuate socio-ecological crises and colonial models, the book highlights the enduring forms of opposition to these processes. At the heart of these struggles lies a crucial question: how can we understand today’s crises while reclaiming alternative ways of living, producing and inhabiting the land?

Mechanical and Solid-Fluid Operations: Separation of Particulate Materials
by Subrata Kumar MajumderThe text presents fundamental principles and analysis of the separation of particulate matter. Analysis and reduction of air pollution involve a variety of technical disciplines. The effective way to control air pollution is to prevent the release of pollutants at the source. Evolution of Management in a Post-Pandemic World: The Chameleon Paradigm (Routledge Studies in Management, Organizations and Society)
by Agnieszka RzepkaDeveloped by Agnieszka Rzepka, the Chameleon Paradigm is the culmination of twenty years of global research which identifies critical factors essential for organizational success in a volatile marketplace. The Paradigm provides a roadmap for organizations, addressing key elements necessary for thriving in a 5.0 reality. With market trends pushing companies towards sustainable, human-centric industries, the book argues that organizations should function as living organisms, where one failing component can disrupt the whole system.Rzepka’s framework combines nine interdependent elements—leadership, innovation, relationships, culture, agility, capital, competence, knowledge, and strategy. The Chameleon Paradigm emphasizes the evolution in management models, shifting societal consciousness, and new workforce dynamics. The book analyzes companies that successfully navigated the pandemic’s challenges, offering a model for resilient and innovative organizations. The book highlights discrepancies between recommended and actual practices in contemporary business and draws a conclusion that effective 21st-century leadership requires agility, proactive behavior, and a growth-focused approach. The accompanying verification tool allows organizations to assess their alignment with the paradigm and identify areas for improvement. The monograph offers key management models and practical recommendations that can be implemented by managers and SMEs and will be of interest to researchers, academics, professionals, and students in the fields of organizational studies, leadership, management, and innovation. By applying Rzepka’s model, managers can design, build, and operate innovative and resilient local and global organizations.
