How do I use Bookshare Reader on a web browser?

Read what you want, where you want with Bookshare Reader, a FREE reading tool that makes reading and learning easier. 

Welcome to the Bookshare Reader for web! Read books quickly and easily in a browser. 

For an effective reading experience, we recommend using Bookshare Reader for web on the following web browsers:

  • Google Chrome version 97 and above 
  • Chromebooks version 105 and above
  • Microsoft Edge version 110 and above
  • Safari version 15.1 and above 
  • Mozilla Firefox version 90 and above

NOTE: If you are a teacher supporting a student, you will not be able to view the book in a web browser since only qualified individuals may access copyright materials. If you have a need to preview the book you may log in with your student’s username and password.

First, find a book! 

1. Go to www.bookshare.org and log into your Bookshare account with your username and password.

2. Search for books using the author, title or ISBN number in the search box. You can also use the advanced search or browse links.

3. Once you find the book you want to read, select the blue Read Now button. This will launch the Bookshare Reader. You are ready to begin reading.

Next, get reading! 

1. Select the play button to hear the book read aloud with text to speech. You can change the voice to your preference. All available voices are based on your browser.

2. Select the gear icon to change various settings such as reading speed, voice, and color contrast.

3. Select the table of contents icon to navigate the book by chapter or page.

 4. Create bookmarks to easily find your place where you left off, or to go back to a specific place in the text.

NOTE: If you use the Bookshare Reader for web to start reading, and want to continue reading with Bookshare Reader for mobile, your reading place is synched so you can pick up right were you left off!
